Statement for intent
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
To establish a consistent brand identity of a sophisticated design and style magazine across two front covers and contents pages, I created pieces of media that would specifically target a female cosmopolitan audience. My media texts are constructed for a young adult audience, 16–25-year-olds, of all cultural backgrounds. The class demographic for my magazine will consist of an AB economic background. The magazine will use elements of traditional magazine genre codes and conventions, using a bold masthead, a variety of cover lines and stand-out images. Both the front covers and contents pages will feature the same capitalised font which establishes a clear brand identity for the intended audience. As a publication under the well-known Condé Nast, there is a duty to ensure there is positive representation across the brand. Condé Nast’s mission to advocate for inclusivity and representation will be a core value of my brand. To create an engaging magazine, I want to use a wide range of colours across my front covers and contents pages, using a summer colour palette featuring different shades of blues and greens. My aim through this colour palette is to create a Mediterranean feel, showcasing the design and style features of this lifestyle. As I am intending to create this bright summer aesthetic, I will ensure my magazine front covers are spring/summer issues. Furthermore, my brand identity will be based on the core principle of inclusivity, showing how style and design can unite those from differing areas of the world. The sophisticated and classy colour scheme is inspired by Dazed MENA and their Bella Hadid issue in November 2025 which features a variety of colours and font sizes. An example being the term ‘Nepo Baby’ which is a term recognised and often used by Gen Z across social media platforms. In addition, to ensure active engagement across platforms, like TikTok and Instagram, one of the front covers will establish how to vote for their favourite Nepo Baby Celebrity of 2025. Thus, promoting the magazine’s digital media alongside the physical media. Aligning with Uses and Gratification’s theory, my media text will ensure aesthetic satisfaction and meaning the audience can find their own personal identity from aspects of the content. This can be linked to Condé Nast and their business principle of wanting to connect with audiences through their publications.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
Having a consistent brand image is vital for any media text, specifically a magazine. My masthead on both my front covers and my contents pages will also have the same font. The use of a bold masthead with the same font shows how the media text shares the same brand identity. By repeating this across my various media texts, establishing to the audience that the product knows it’s intended audience of 16–25-year-olds and is consistently aiming to combine online and physical media. Accessibility is necessary for my products, creating a brand which is unified and encourages the positive shift from a passive audience to an active audience. I plan to ensure that the online and magazine content provides relevant stories and has an element of exclusivity to encourage a wider readership. I want to use a cross-media approach to engage with the audience, leading to a synergy being created.
